2005 FX4 ,,, 5.4 Engine noise
My truck sounds like a diesel... especially at idle. Took it to the dealer and they said it was all normal.... ????? My son had same truck with same noise and Ford put in a new short block. Does anyone else have the same problems ???????????/

Search "cam phasers". Although its not the only option, it is one option. Very common problem on these trucks. My dads 04 sounds like a diesel. He took it to ford, they told him it was because he used aftermarket oil filters. They said they would have to pull the motor apart to diagnose. If it was top end, heads are $2000 each plus labor. bottom end, replace motor for $10000

Thank you ,,, I got the same story from my dealer,... Was told that if I hadnt been using Ford Filters and oil and if I could not PROVE it with receipts,,, then Ford would probably not consider any remedial action. My son had the exact same condition on his 2005, and we did supply the proof ,, so Ford payed for a new short block ... Then,,,, he had problems and the dealer told him it was the parts from his old engine that had to be reused. ????????
He traded it in on a Toyota Tundra ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Think I will drive mine until it blows up ,,,,And I am purchasing an extended warrenty from Ford ,,,,,, so they will have to pay eventually......
