2005 F150 XLT, $12K, 55k mi - good deal?
Hey I'm new to this forum and I think I'm settling on an F150 rather than the Silverado which was my first inclination. As far as I can tell the F150 has better safety ratings than the Chevy and my wife is concerned about that - we've got two young daughters.
So I found a 2005 XLT for $12K with 55,000 miles on it.

Seems like a good deal to me comparing prices to KBB and Edmunds. My experience looking at Silverados for several months would say this thing would be gone by now. But this thing has been on craigslist for a least a month.
I would have a prepurchase inspection done it. I drove it and noticed a bit of a surge in the brakes indicating the rotors need to be turned or replaced. I've never done a carfax so I'm not sure how useful those are.
Any thoughts?
One other question - does anyone know if the V6s in the Heritage supercab get much better mileage than the triton?

About a week ago, someone posted an interesting article from Consumers Reports, showing that the 2004 to 2008 trucks had the least amout of trouble recalls than Chevy or Dodge, making these trucks a better choice as a good used truck buy.
Perhaps another poster remembers the link, and will post it for you, otherwise it can be found with a search.
As to better mileage and the like, I have no experience with the late model Chevys/Dodges, so I cannot help you there.
Your statement of having a pre-check is an excellent one; I strongly agree with having that done for piece of mind. You also may get lucky and find a fellow member here that has a membership with carfax (or works at a dealership) and will do the check for you.
