Default 2005 f150 tranny problems

Hey, I have a 2005 f150 crew cab lariat with the 5.4. I bought it about 8 months ago with 75,000 miles on it. Since then I replaced the fuel pump drive module, put new E3 diamond fire spark plugs in (got to pullheads off as my snap-on tap broke off in cylinder trying to get snapped spark plugs out) and a few odds and ends here and there.
Well about a month ago my tranny slipped leaving a red light and slammed into gear, it did it a second time as I was driving it back to my shed. I changed tranny fluid and found no signs of metal anywhere in fluid.
It ran fine for about 3 weeks with no problems until the other day I was leaving my work (heavy equipment diesel mechanic) going to get lunch and as I was acceleration, at about 30 mph, it was like I pushed the clutch in on a manual but stayed on the throttle. It reved to about 4500 and didn't pop back into gear until I let off. It did it a second time later that day. It's been about a week and hasn't happened again.
Hoping someone knows these trannys better then I do and cam give me some input on where to start.
Thanks!

I read this the other night, don't know if it is specific to your problem but may be worth checking out.

Good luck!

Sounds like classic clutch slippage. I'd say a rebuild is in your future. That's a bummer if that's the case since a tranny should go more then 75K.

Mine did that at about 117k. Then it started to shudder when engaging 2nd and 3rd. At around 125k it started slipping with some frequency until it died. These trannies aren't that great. A lot fail at around 120k and others seem to go quite a bit longer.

Sorry to hear... Generally, are these transmissions known to be reliable? Proven model, or new for 2004?

F-150 is new territory for me, former daily driver (still have) was a 1999 Cherokee... 212K miles original engine/trans, lots of new parts, but zero major problems.

What type of fluid did you use?
USE ONLY "MERCON V".

Is your speedometer reading correctly?
