Sputtering, loss of power and poor acceleration
I bought my 2006 FX4 with the 5.4 Triton last August so I have no idea if the plugs were ever changed or what has been done to it. I have 115,000 miles on it. When I'm driving on flat roads it usually runs fine but has no pickup. If I accelerate from a stop it's a dog and going up a bridge or sometimes even on flat roads it cuts out, sputters a little and hesitates. I was thinking it was fuel related. Any ideas? Would a tuner resolve the issue?

You should fix your issues before getting a programmer. Give it a good tune up. New plugs (unless you're sure they have been changed), new cop boots with grease, new fuel filter, clean the MAF sensor, new air filter, oil change with quality oil. Also check the FPDM under the spare. This way you rule out the things that need to be done anyway. If you do all this yourself, still cheaper than a programmer.
