Because of all the stuff you get from a FACTORY manual. I guess if you don't go in depth that's fine, but you get the info from people that designed and built it rather than people who took it apart and tried to figure out how it was done.

Once again back to the computer. Not for me while working on a truck.

In my experience with the 2, I feel Haynes is more of a heavy line mechanical manual where Chiltons is light line. For example, Haynes for rebuild and Chiltons for light or filter replacement.

My experience is just the opposite- Chilton's used to be more in-depth. Perhaps you missed my post, but Haynes bought out Chilton's, so they are virtually one and the same manual now. Sad.

I used to have a lot of faith in Chiltons and Haynes. Haynes always gave good schematics and that appealed to me as an electrician. However, in later years on my motorcycles, trucks and my Jeep, I have found Haynes to be almost useless with all their misinformation. I would definitely go with the factory service manual. You can always print out thepages you need when you work on your truck.

The Haynes manual I have for the '04-08 F-150s states that ball joints are not replaceable and you have to change the whole LCA. It also recommends checking fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the fuel rail, (there isn't one) and has a few other issues.

Ford tech manual, print it, get it bound, done.
