Throwing codes - intake camshaft position timing overretarded bank 1 ,intake camshaft over advanced bank 2 ,system too rich bank 1 .p0012,p0021, p0172
Motor is at 160k mi . Was making heavy tick and knock . Flushed engine pulled pan to look at debris if any -found plastic from timing chain guides in there .
I guessed that would be so , I was studying replacement of guides ,tensioners, chains and cam phasors .
Replaced Vct solenoids last year , checked one today and no debris in screens .
Engine not all gunked up , used synthetic since new .
It was acting up before I flushed it . I wonder if it jumped time . Do I need to rebuild front end or should I get new engine . I can change out the parts for 800 oem on oem select . I have the timing tool but I'm worried about getting the cam in the right position without doing valve damage . Plus how do I know if the lash adjusters are okay on the cams . I hear they jam up . Don't know how to deal with cams .

If you have no sludge or gunk buildup, I would fix that one and keep trucking. You'll def wanna get the timing parts, but you really won't know what all you'll need as far as lash adjusters and followers untill you get it apart. If they roll fine with no slack or excessive wear, you can let em ride. Some will say replace them all while it's apart, that's your decision to make. I can't weigh in on timing the motor cause I've never timed these motors.

When you pulled the pan did you check the oil pump pick up screen. Those screens get gunked up easily and then restrict the oil flow. Not a good scene in the 5.4's that have to have good oil flow.
I would make the repairs myself to the existing engine (unless you find a showstopper).
Pull the pan again and check that screen - they do not self cleanse once the blockage begins.
