2004 VCT Solenoid Housing cleaned?
All,
So many threads on changing the VCT solenoids and it may or may not be the issue and may be a part of the other issues (low oil pressure, cam phasers etc...)...One thing I haven't seen is discussion on taking a look at the VCT solenoid housing once you pull it out? Should you check those screens I see in photos (mine are on order)? Has anyone done anything with this? Should they be sprayed down at least with something?
Kind of like the lack of discussion on cleaning the spark plug holes to get rid of the carbon so you don't put a plug back in there with the carbon.
Let me know thanks!

Well it's a good idea to clean the housings and is usually done during a complete timing job. Unless you have an '07 up, you don't need to remove the valve covers to replace the VCT solenoids. Tearing apart the housings to clean them is impossible without doing so.
