Pretty amazing ain't it? It is the next coming of the cruise control debacle - and it disturbs the hell out of me that I just passed 90K and spent $800 flushing and replacing every fluid and the brakes so this thing will run for a long time - and I not only don't get the plugs replaced - but Ford doesn't even bring it up as a need? YIKES!!!!!

I have never heard of this, sound like FORD should have a recall. Does anyone have a picture of an old plug, or the peice that gets stuck in the holes? I am just wondering what they look like.

oh yeah its on all over ford f150 forums complained about this.

It scared me, my truck is 2004 so i pulled out all 8 sparks at 17K ( i think), cleaned it up then put it in. at 41K i pulled out with TSB instruction and no problem at all. I replaced all 8 sparks..WHEW.

Keep fightin! dont give up! its not SUPPOSED BE STUCK IN ENGINE!

Ford Quailty#1 blow me...sorry

I can think of replies that include inappropriate language, but these guys designing this stuff needs to be criminally prosecuted. The FMC is first in line, ceo to first level engineer, and the next group are mechanics that don't read TSB's. So group, does this apply to other Ford engines? And does it apply to other manufacturers?

Default Spark plugs

I know this sucks for all of you with the spark plug problem. But I too have a 2004 ford f150 screw 5.4l. When I installed my S.C. I had to put colder plugs. I was as nervous as a ho in church about changing the plugs but I got them all out myself without a problem. I took my time, but they were still a pain in the *****. I bought a special tool to remove them. Well at least it said it was special, It looks like a spark plug socket and extension all in one. Good luck for the rest of you. Let me know if any of you are interested in the tool, I can send you the link where I bought mine.

just tonight I heard my story on the local news!! Ofcourse, it wasnt MY story...but it sounded the same. 04 F150...goes to the shop...plugs get broken...lots of money. Makes me a little nausiated.....the "BIG PROBLEM" is coming boys...anybody with these plugs is going to have a problem with them. My plan will remain the same...keep makin noise because the squeaky wheel gets the grease...or someone "whacks" it!!

Thanks to all for responding. I just hope I can save someone from this nightmare! I honestly don't think Ford will ever do anything about this because they won't be forced to recall anything. Recalls are only forced by the government if there is a safety issue. I don't feel scared to drive my truck because it might catch on fire or something, I just feel sick to my stomach hoping that the old plugs in the left bank don't foul until I can sell this thing. Hey anybody looking to buy an '04 Lariat Super Crew...dirt cheap? Anyway, regardless of anything Ford ever attmepts to correct (which won't happen), I am pretty much screwed anyway. I waited until I actually had 150k on my truck because I have so many highway miles before I had them even try. I can probably be as squeaky as I want and will never get a response. The only way that Ford will do something is if there is a class action law suit against them for this problem from F150 owners that brought their trucks in for the scheduled 100k service and had the problem.

God, I hope they fixed something. I really like these trucks. Anyway, good luck to all who may be facing this problem. And finally, a word of advice to anyone, make sure you ask that all TSB reports are pulled and reviewed by your mechanic before having anything done to anything. It pays to be safe.

along with making sure the tech has read the TSB...also make sure that they have actually changed plugs in this engine...sounds dumb but if you are at an independent shop...chances are they havent!!

Better yet...just buck up and take it to the dealer...you have more leverage with ford if it was at a dealership. Also, dealerships have certain programs designed to help off set cost overruns...like needing to remove your cylinder head to get a spark plug out. Plugs are less likely to break if you know what you are doing...or you are careful (neither of which was the case for the tech working on my truck).
