Folks - thinking about buying a used '04 F150 with the FX4 package (54k MILES).

Was there any issues with the '04s given that was the first year of the remodeled F150 - lots of new stuff sometimes means lots of gremlins.

Other question is what is all included in the FX4 package, and does it make it a rougher or smoother ride on the highway (which unfortunately is where most of the miles will come)

Anything I need to know?

I have a 2005 sales booklet; it states the standard features for a FX4 as:

FX4 off road decals, Color-coordinated front and rear bumper, Black bar styled grille, Dark grey wheel lip moldings, Black leather wrapped steering wheel, Black rubber off road floor mats, Sport cloth 40/20/40 split front seat with driver and right-front passenger manual lumbar, 17" machined-aluminum wheels, Electronic Shift-On-The-Fly, Limited-slip rear axle, Off-road tuned shocks, Skid plates- 2 steel (front crossmember and transfer case), one composite (fuel tank).

There are also countless options available that are mentioned at the end of this booklet; too many to type here!

I would check to see if the spark plugs have been changed and if not have the dealership change them before purchasing the truck. One of the biggest issues with the 04-?? model year trucks is that when changing spark plugs they have a tendency to break off and leave you with an expensive repair bill. Do a search on this site or many other F150 sites and you'll find plenty of info about this reoccurring problem.

I have a 2004 FX4 and love it. No problems at all so far. and the ride is good on the highway.

Only problem with my 04 is the cruise control doesn't work. Other than that it seems to be solid. I've only had it a couple months. Oh, and the 6 disk cd doesn't work either. The speakers on the audiophile system are decent though.
