2004 FX4 Off Road V8 High Mileage, Good Deal? Need Help!
Hello, I am new to this forum, but it looks like there are a lot of really great and knowledgeable people. I currently have a 1997 F150 4x4 with over 200K miles. it runs but it stalls, no air, and the 4x4 is broken. I bought it with 153k on it and got a ton of use for what I paid for it.
I am now looking at a 2004 FX4 with 99,700 miles on it. I am looking to get a 4x4 that will last me 5 years without any major problems and I drive about 15K-18K miles a year with a a dozen or so long highway trips.
This truck is priced just under 10K with a repo liquidation company, it has a few dings and scratches but not bad at all. It looks and drives great.
My question is how does everybody feel about this vehicle for a dependable truck for the next 5 years at 75K-90K miles. I know a lot has to do with how it was maintained and I there are no records for it. The carfax is clean with 3 owners but no accidents. it also appears the majority of the miles were from owner 2 who drove from Texas and back to Florida often and put about 65K miles on in 2 years.
I always do my oil changes on time and take care of my vehicles but again I can't account for it's treatment before.
It is also a 5.4 V8 which are normally bulletproof.
Thanks for your help!

The KBB is $14K in excellent condition and 12,500 in good condition. It is because it is the FX4 Off Road. the retail was $38K for it in 2004
As for the suspension, there are no supporting docs since it is a repo car but it is very solid, no squeaks and from what I can see it is clean.

Red 04 FX4 Screw
I just bought an 04 fx4 with 63k miles for $17k. For 10K, buy it, and you should have some money to put into anything that needs fixed. I'm sure you can always find a junk yard for replacement parts and keep it cheap.

Thanks Fergusmj, that is about what I have been finding them for. The only ones I have seen below 12K besides this one I am looking at were all workhorses with 150k+
Thanks,
Adam

I have already seen 04's with the 5.4 at 150K, 175K, even 200K so I know they are as tough as the previous models. The regular cabs are the best deal you can get but I have to have the back row seeting.
I wan't the 4x4 obviously but I am wondering if it is worth it to have one with the higher mileage.
I will be in school for the next few years along with work full time so i don't have time or money for repairs. I just know my 97 4x4 off road still is running at over 200K and it was beat to hell by the first owner for 153K and I don't know where these measure up to those.

edmunds.com places a 2004 FX4 with NO OPTIONS in CLEAN condition at $10,377 private party value (the higher than average mileage caused the price to drop -$1447). The retail value is $11,641. Sounds like a good deal to me.
