2004 FX4 Front Wheel Bearing Noise
Just as the title says, I have a 2004 FX4 and I am beginning to hear a front right hum/grinding noise that does not change when brakes/gas are applied slightly which makes me think that its the wheel bearing going out on it. The noise does go away when I come up to a stop sign though. Any Ideas on what to look for or what can be done to fix the problem????? I do not know much about trucks so any help is great! Thanks

Does the noise get worse when you turn your wheels either to the left or right?
If not check your brake pads out quick. Or maybe just take it to a local shop, it should not be to bad either way.

The sound does not seem to get any worse but the tone changes when going around a turn then comes back to the same hum/griding when driving straight. Brake pads are fine.

Are you sure the pads are fine the back pad goes out alot FASTER than the front pad i had a the same noise and it was the back pad what was weird is the brakes never squealed. Just a thought ether way the rotor had the barring built in it so for $80 you can get a new one with a new barring in it an east fix bit it is a pain to pull them i seen some were on there they used the caliper tool to push it off easy GOOD LUCK.
P.S if you need to get your back rotors turned dont do it they sell new ones for $29

I did just have the brakes done on it maybe 3 or 4 months ago so I dont think that is the problem. I just brought the truck to the shop today so hopefully they will ahve some good news for me a tell me that its not going to take a lot of time and parts to fix. Ill let you know what they come up with

If the noise doesn't go away or change when you hit the brakes, then it's more than likely a wheel bearing.
As an aside, when everything is in good working order, the pads wear evenly. If one pad is wearing more than the other in a given caliper, check your sliders, they're probably frozen solid.
TO Cold: The 4x4 rotors don't have bearings integral with the rotors. 4x2 brakes and 4x4 brakes are different animals.
