I believe our problem could be the brake pressure switch which is up near the brake pedal. It's a redundant switch that works with the brake light switch. Shout out to FordTechMakuloco for that help. That's the one that is on the master cylinder in other trucks.

Ok. Got one ordered. I'll repost after I get it changed out. Thanks man. No cruise get annoying in longer trips. One thing after another here lately. Stated musing here and there under load going up hills. Only does it in high gear. Once you mash the gas on down and it down shifts a gear it fine. Had my wife's armada do this same thing awhile back. It was a cool pack so I just ordered all new ones for this truck. I'm hoping that's what it is if not I'm guessing cam phasers.

For reference: the part is called the cruise control release switch and part number is 3M5Z-9F924-AC

That's going to be my attempt today. Also, yes my horn does work.

I have a 2004 F140 5.4L Lariat with a cruise control that didn't work a while back. But, it also had the ABS light on, and set OBD code P2106. Since you don't have the latter two symptoms, what I did, replaced the rear speed sensor, probably isn't your problem.

But, I did something else that might be of help. I bought Scantool 425801 for about $30 and downloaded free Forscan software. This software is Ford specific and it enabled me to pinpoint the rear sensor as the problem. My other OBD tool just reported P2106; and, my multi-meter tests were inconclusive. Since the brake system and the cruise control system are tied together, it may help you pinpoint your problem.

I fixed my cruise control today, and here's what I learned throughout the process.

If your cruise control will not activate or is malfunctioning follow these steps:

1. Check all fuses with a fuse tester.
2. Check all brake lights for operation. Especially verify operation of the third brake light which is at the top in the middle. Make sure none of the brake lights are LED as this will cause the system to fault as well.
3. Verify the horn works - this can apparently affect the CC system.
4. Attempt to shift from park to drive without pressing the brake pedal. I believe you will need to replace part of your gear shifter if this is the problem. Possibly the most expensive fix at $100 or more. Somewhat common with the floor shift model trucks.
5. Check the brake light switch which is a black switch attached to the top of the brake pedal. It controls the brake lights and sends an electrical signal to illuminate the brake lights and to cancel cruise control when its activated.
6. Finally, check the cruise control release switch. It is a blue and grey switch pictured below located near the brake light switch. This was my problem and took an bit of research to pinpoint. It is a redundant switch that is a pressure switch. It's a secondary way to cut cruise control using brake pedal pressure if any other method fails.

The top is the broken switch, bottom is $5 replacement from junkyard

I hope this information helps as cruise control is a nice feature. Also, the cruise control light will never illuminate on the instrument cluster until cruise is set which will only engage at approx 30mph or greater. Good luck!

Thanks for all the info. Got me a new brake switch ordered. Mine was also broken. Put the code reader on and seen I have a code for the inertia switch. Not having any problems with it but being its throwing a code in assuming I may start having problems. Guess I'll check it out tomorro. Thanks again.

Changed out brake light switch, the switch above the brake light switch, all fuses good, no led lights installed and still no cruise!
