Every car, truck or whatever will have certain problems with that model. Sometimes they are expensive issues, sometimes there are just minor annoyances, but everything will have some problem.

That said, by far it's almost always tied back to poor maintenance or other abuses. So, as someone posted, choose the vehicle you like/want, then choose the right one based on maintenance that was done to it, overall shape, etc. This is easier said than done and still comes down to luck.

Lastly, my grandmother never bought brand new cars. She had plenty of money to do it, but she always bought cars at least two years old. Her reasoning was that the previous owner already worked out the bugs. While this is certainly good logic, it's not the only reason to not buy brand new - especially brand new models and etc, that aren't road tested yet.

Bought mine brand spankin' new with 11 miles and maintenance was first rate,,or so I thought. The selling dealer did ALL RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE until the crummy 3 year not finished paying for the damn thing warranty was over at which point I took over and continued every 3000, not 5000, 3000 oil changes with motorcraft synthetic blend and motorcraft filters. Except for the 60000 recommened which I brought to same dealer to do. Tranny failure at 77661. I did not overwork my personal vehicle although I asked it to work lightly, IT"S A TRUCK IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK AND WHY I BOUGHT IT. REMAN tranny to repair,,, continued with every 3000 oil changed engine failure at 107139,,just got truck back with reman longblock.

I am looking at 4 runners for the next purchase,,(F)ix (O)r (R)epair (D)aily has lost a customer and its really a shame I like the new trucks look and comfort but I would have to have stoopid tattoo'd on my forehead if purchase another one.

Oh and I didn't mention the rear axle failure at nearly 36000 that I caught from weird handling while turning. The limited slip failed but that was a warranty catch just barely. That was the first major problem.

ford doesn't give a damn and if I didn't pay a hefty chunk of my mortgage earlier this year I would be on the 4 runner forum right now. Now I must recoup some of my money from this damned reman engine.
