2004 F150 Transmission Reliabilty
After a total transmission failure in our Ford Explorer and a very expensive repair bill, I did quite a bit of research and found this is apparently a common problem.
Next I decided to research my 2004 F-150 Lariet that I bought new and also has low mileage - 31,000. I located this info:

I wouldn't expect this with such a popular truck. Anyone similar experiences as described in this link??

Not sure what kind of info your looking to get with your post? Fact is that every transmission will eventually fail. My transmission currently has 186,000 highway miles and still shifts as good as new. Had my truck been a grocery getter or a city driven truck where the transmission is continually shifting through the gears I would be willing to accept the fact that it's going to fail much sooner.

Is this a serious post? I mean, s**t, that's the first post to make with no real intro? Well, consider this: I haul 8,000lbs daily anywhere from 30km to 120km up and down hills and sometimes even on mountain passes with a truck that just hit 190,000km on the odometer. Shifts are fine as f**k. Will do a transmission service later but no signs of failure and the fluid isn't in bad condition so far.

There were only 939,511 F-150's sold in 2004. 20 early transmission failures is a very low rate. Who knows how any of these trucks were treated and or cared for?
My last truck - 2000 F150 was still running strong @ 130,000 miles when I sold it. Now have a 2004 with 60,000 miles that is still like new. If I were a betting man, I would take odds on it being good for many more years and miles.

Transmission issues were one of the least concerns with the 2004-2008 F150s. The 5.4L has a host of issues that you will want to educate yourself on if you don't already know about them and ball joints don't seem to last long. I'd recommend the moog ball joints with the zerk fittings so they can be greased if the ball joints on your Lariat have play.

I'm sitting at 162,793 miles currently on my truck. I drive mostly city driving. My transmission is perfect. As a matter of fact, I couldn't ask for any better from this transmission. It's perfect don't worry about it man

2007, at 40,000miles my planetary gears came apart and tore everything inside the case apart. Warranty covered it, but i was definitely let down and pissed off about it.

I had my 04' replaced at 34,000. Thank God it was under warranty! I was not pleased that i went out a year after I bought it considering the fact that I wasn't hard on the truck at any point. Now 8 years later and 90,000 on it I'm pleased with it and its like new.
