Default 2004 F150 Transmission Issue

I changed the transmission fluid/filter in my 2004 F150 5.4L. Used Haynes manual--no issue--now, transmission malfunction and o/d light on--truck is mushy. What did I do wrong? Anyone experienced this before?

Explain what you did and how you did it. What type of fluid? How many miles?

You might have bumped the internal harness and caused it to lose contact with one of the solenoids. I did that very thing while doing a transmission repair.

Thanks ford4d08. 2004 Ford F150 Lariat, 103K miles. I was doing routine maintenance-brake pads, new rotors, transmission fluid replace. I dropped the transmission pan, swapped out filter, removed factory plastic plug that serves no purpose. Added initial 4 qts Mercon V fluid. After idling and cycling transmission (Haynes manual), would not go into gear. Shifter moved, no drive. Ford mechanic pulled pan, tells me filter is dirty (brand new, out of box). Doing line test to determine issue. I didn't touch anything but filter and pan. He tells me low on fluid. I added 9 qts-I don't believe 9 came out. Unless I puked it up somewhere. Ideas? Thanks

If you did just a pan drop I don't see how it could have held 9 qts?? That's about 3 or 4 qts overfill. Sounds like it's an electronic issue if it won't shift or engage at all. The gears are controlled by electronic solenoids. Sounds like they are engaging correctly.
