ok battery was toast, wouldnt take a charge. now that i have the new one installed i have tested the parasitic draw which was .48 amps im not sure if this is high or not. also wit the truck running i tested the battery and that was just over 14v so im ruling out the alternator. perhaps this all was just because of the bad battery but i am doubtful. does anyone know what these truck normally pull on their parasitic draw?

I thought you already tried a new battery? Was the new battery also bad??? 14v is a good sign for the alternator at least..

any idea if that draw seems high? i may have not been doing the test right. i did the same test on my neighbors 04 dodge and the reading was over 1. so either his truck is worse than mine, my problem is solved, or im completely wrong on how to do the parasitic draw test

yes thats the method i used, i did not trace back the power wire though. once i tested the neighbors truck and it came out at twice what mine was it put my mind a bit at ease. i suppose tomorrow or the next day i will update whether its cured or not. thanks to all for the help so far though. and out of curiousity why did i check the 7 pin trailer connection? is it possible corrosion there would cause a draw?

Yes. Some people had some corrosion in the connector that caused a power draw that would kill the battery... This and acid leakage from the battery tray area have been known to cause done electrical issues..
