2004 F150 FX4 5.4 triton cranks but wont start
Hi,
See the history of my car below. It cranks but wont start. what can we check next.
Recent maintenance history 2004 F150 FX4 5.4 triton 100K miles
6 months ago
Two new coils installed (#1 and #5)
9 sept
Car went to mechanic for oil change. With new oil one of the lifters got stuck. According to the mechanic the oil pressure was higher with the new oil, pushing the lifter stuck. Additive was added to oil to release the stuck lifter. After lifter was released, engine was running very rough.
16 sept
Cam position sensor on driver side was replaced and after that the car was running perfect.
22 sept
Car did not start. It would crank but not start. Diagnosis of mechanic was a bad fuelpump.
2 oct
New fuelpump installed and car started right up, it idled smoothly for 5 minutes, until I turned it off. Note: since 27 sept the battery had been disconnected.
3 oct
The bed was put back on the truck. Tried the car. No start. Same issue as before: it cranks but no start.
4 oct
Fuel delivery to injector rail OK
Spark (outside head) OK
Visually inspected one spark plug (#1). Looked OK (could be better)
MAF sensor OK
Fuses OK (except for 2 non related ones)
Crankshaft sensor was replaced with a brand new one
Throttle body valve OK
Visually inspected PCM unit inside OK
Car does not start when fuel is directly injected in throttle body
Disassembled after market remote engine start system
it cranks but wont start.
thanks for responding!

Did you check the fpdm ? Could be corroded or cracked causing no start condition. Also check fuel pump inertia switch, may need to be reset. Perhaps fuel pump relay too. Hope this helps. Wishing you good luck.

Having fuel at the rail isn't a good indicator.
I had fuel at the rail and it wouldn't start, wasn't maintaining enough pressure to run through the injectors properly. The FPDM modulates fuel pressure, it may allow the pump to run but may not let the fuel system build enough pressure.
Try spraying ether in the intake and see it it starts then.
In addition, I'd advise finding a new mechanic, the lifter scenario just doesn't sound right.
