Yea change the switch but If the light on the dash comes on I would still think that the 4wd would still work and remember we have open diffs in the front you may have been stuck and your right tire spun with out you knowing one way to check is get a camera and have the truck in 4wd and see if the cv joints are spinning the same direction and if the two joints are spinning opposite of eachother a actuator is bad and when you loose traction on one wheel the wheel with the bad actuator will spin because we have a open diff and the actuator isn't catching

This is mine I live in Florida and yes it's 4x4 when I save the money I'm buying a lift I don't use mommy and daddy's money I myself do my own repairs I also did driver and passenger side exhaust manifold repair and two studs were alredy broken and I had to drill those out. It's was a pita but I rely on my self and pay for all the repairs I can

Ok one more test get under the truck with it on and in 2wd grab both cv joints by the meeting plats and spind them in the same direction if they do with out a lot of effort good. Now spin one side at a time and either side should turn the actual drive shaft if yes then good, now but in 4wd and when you try to push either cv joint it shouldn't spin neither the drive shaft nor the opposite cv

Well, the right side that wasnt spinning in 4wd was turning freely in 2wd. The left side wouldnt move at all. Put in 4wd and both didnt spin.

Wind chill is -8 here today and colder tomorrow so it will be tough to look into it. Maybe ill have a chance to get it on the lift tom. Any more tests to do or any ideas? Thinking i need new axles up front. They are rusty (damn salt)
