Default 2004 f150 4x4 needs a pick me up,need more juice

My 2004 f150 4x4 4.6 has gotten slower and more gas guzeling (9mpg) within the last yr, it has 105k and all it has for mods is a exposed k&n airfilter and a flowmaster. The trany was done a while ago and the tech sad it was abnormaly gutless off the line and said perhaps the cattys were clogged. I changed the fuel filter and will be doing spark plugs this week. I just wanted to know if anyone has solved this problem. I have also been considering a programer, not sure what kind, and switching to an electric fan. And perhaps doing the exhaust from headers back, although that seems like it may be a little exopensive. Any suggestions would be appretiated.

Default bad cattys, hypertech programer, gear ratio ----reply

My gear ratio is 373 and my tires are 275/70/17 .. I havent reset the computer for my k&n exposed filter and flomaster muffler. I have been planning on getting a programer, but wasent sure which one to get. But I kinda wanted to get the truck running in tip top shape before I purchased the programer. my mechanic said he wanted to put a presure guage in the o2 sensor port between the catty and exhaust manifold to see if there was any back presure caused by a cloged catty, Well i didnt feel like payin his price to do so, so i did it myself and found it was backed up 3-5 psi in front if the cat and behind the exhaust manifold and that was when it was cold. So im thinkin of getting 2 magniflow high flow cattys and cutting off the back to cattys, im not sure if itl throw codes with the back 2 cattys off, theres no 02 sensors behind them,-- Im not sure if that much back (3-5 psi) presure would cause my truck to be so guttless. When i drove it yesterday, i went to take off and I floored it and it berely moved then it slowly wound up and took off, even after 15 seconds of bein floored I was only up to 40. it takes for ever to wrap out. i HAVent change the plugs yet but im planning on it.--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any comments or suggestions welcome----------

thats how my truck was acting. my cats were badly plugged and my truck was all sluggish and slow. i had a mufler shop take off the precats and replace the main cats with magnaflow highflow cats. it made a world of difference. no stumble or anything anymore

and besides when you get a programmer you'll be all set up
