I have a 2004 F-150 with an emergency brake that likes to hang up and make the truck shake violently, it had been in the ford shop under warranty for this problem but the mechanic said there is no cure ,can anyone help ?

I was having the same problem and when replacing the rear brakes I noticed the right rear E-brake cable was not hooked up. After removing the rotor the e-brake was rusted in the open position , or putting pressure on the rotor . To fix it you need to take the cables off and remove the lever that actuates the e-brake ( it goes through the backing plate and hooks to the e-brake cable) the two arms MUST move freely !! Mine was rusted fast. I used WD-40 to free them and yes there are 2 arms and they do come apart. Clean them good and I put a little anti-seize on them to keep them from rusting and keep them working . Problem solved ( Hope this helps )

Are th four bolst in the back holding the rotor on? Did you need a wheel puller or special tools? I'm looking for an IPB on the rear breakes - 2003 F150, 6 cyl. stick.

No special tools needed , Just put truck up on jackstands , remove the wheel , and there are 2 10mm bolts holding on the rear caliper , remove the 2 bolts and remove the caliper , ( you may need to pry the caliper off with a large screwdriver just be careful not to damage it or the rear pads ) tie the caliper out of the way and the rotor should come of without much effort. If your e-brake is hanging up you will need to remove the rubber plug on the back of the backing plate and loosen the adjusting nut on the e-brake. Hope this helps

There is a fix, its called lubricating the lever the cable hooks into. Can't believe Ford Service can't take care of this. That two piece lever can rust solid. Pull that lever out, separate it and take a wire brush to it, then grease it (hi temp brake grease works well). As a matter of fact, you should lubricate all the contact points on the shield. Its a half a## design that can't handle rust well. Once you do it, you realize its a piece of cake. The hardest part is probably getting the rear rotor off...

Yep, I can second this answer. My 04 did the same thing till I adjusted the e-brake. Mechanic is just being lazy.
