Well the truck has gotten the infamous ticking from a RH leaky manifold. Its about to drive me crazy. I had a question regarding the quality of them. About the only two manufacturers of then I see is MC and Dorman from Advance Auto. Are the Dorman ones any count (quality wise) before I pull the trigger on one? And before someone mentions headers, not looking into spending $480 on headers

And its getting a new manifold regardless if its just a gasket or stud problem. If I have to go through the trouble of removing the manifold, its getting new everything

Mine was a warped manifold.
Other can be a cracked manifold.

It made a clicking sound under acceleration? Mine is awful!

I had broken stud(s)... So glad it's fixed and not ticking anymore, i thought it was injectors, then phasers, then finally a buddy of mine who works at ford diagnosed it in his driveway with his ears... It's very common obviously

Hi I'm new here, and not trying to highjack this post but I was just wondering if replacing the stud is something that can be done in the driveway or if it has to be done by a professional mechanic. I just noticed my exhaust rear-most driver side stud is missing (sheared off). Just wondering how you fixed it.

Unsure, I believe if a stud breaks its due to the manifold being warped and only fixed by replacing the manifold with a new one, by replacing just the stud it would still leak... But again I'm unsure, just what I heard....

Does a leaking manifold. Leak only when hot. Or cold or both. ?

When cold its very loud tick. For example if you start your truck and it ticks loud for about 20-30 seconds then gets quiet or normal sounding. But once you start driving or putting the engine under a load, you'll hear it tick.

A way to check is when the engine is warmed up, roll windows down, put truck in drive, hold a foot on the break and push the gas pedal too, not too much to smoke the tires! You should hear the tick when the gas pedal is pushed. It should tick with rpms. If you simply put it in neutral or park and rev it and listen for the tick it won't be noticeable. Only under a load

Mine would be soo annoying with my passenger window down driving along a building or wall. The tick would echo off the wall and sound very loud.

mine started out with just a ticking sound when the engine was cold and then a faint ticking sound when the engine was warmed up, now the tick has become a lot louder and yes it is starting to drive me nuts. Anyone know how much a dealership/mechanic would charge to replace the exhaust manifold and studs?

In regards to the OP, I found those Dorman manifolds online but for some reason it was only showing the passenger side manifold for sale, don't they sell the driver side? I've haven't seen any info yet about the quality difference between the 2 manufacturers that you mentioned. Lets hope someone can shime in on that
