Default 2004-2005 lash adjusters/lifters

So ive been in the market to replace my lifters and rockers. I have a 2004 newer body style f150. There are two part numbers from ford for lifters. 3l3z6500ba for the early style lifters and 5l1z6500a for 05 to 09. What is the difference between the two. Can i use the newer style if i change my rockers also. The rockers are the same part number also. Im seeing lifter and rocker kits everywhere for 04 to 09. I dont know what i can and can use. This is rediculous. I thought picking my oil pump was a tough decision but this..........

Default I would only use oem rollers and lash adjusters

Bought mine $265 oem select ebay 24x2 each for the 5.4l . $265 /48 pieces that's about $5.52 each .
Don't take a chance on parts that work so hard and difficult to change . What would you save 30--- 40 bucks not worth it .
The guy at oem select will know which year part can be used . You must hand oil and prime lash adjusters / cams /rollers .

This really isnt about saving money. Im looking at the ford racing kit. they say it replaces the 5l1z6500a number I cant just take one persons word that a certain part number of theres will work in my truck. If something goes wrong there not gonna pay for it. I need to know why they are different and if they only made the first style for one year apparently there was an issue. Kits every where are saying they will work in my truck. I need more info on them

Call your local dealership monday and ask the parts counter. Then you'll have the word from the horse's mouth.

Default Sorry I miss read your needs

I fully understand your point . One time a parts shop threw in some lifters on me that were different than the others, well they caused me grief until I remembered two looked slightly different .
Perhaps a place like summit racing would know . Tech rep on here may know also .
Most people come on here to find their way thru a repair as cost efficient as they can . That was basis of my answer .
Oem select had straightened me out when I had it in my head that there were different right and left phasors .
I know I asked the question if the racing ones(lash adjusters) were right for my 05 5.4 and they assured me they would be fine for regular service .
I guess you racing guys get into it more deeply and more often than we do .
When you get the answer we all would like to know .

Camshaft And Lash Adjuster
Design Change On 2004-’05 Ford
5.4L, 3 Valve VIN 5 Engines
Because a camshaft and lash
adjuster design change was
made between the 2004 and
2005 Ford 5.4L 3-valve VIN 5
engines, using 2005 model year
parts when servicing a 2004
model year or 2004 model year
parts for a 2005 model year, the
engine may exhibit noise on
affected cylinders and engine
damage may result.
Camshaft differences between
the 2004 and 2005 model years
can be identified by the location
of the variable cam timing phas-
er (VCT) pin notch in relation to
the machining lug as seen on the
end of the camshaft shown in
Figure 5, left.
2004 and 2005 model year
lash adjusters can be identified
by the presence or lack of an
identification groove cut into the
lash adjuster boss shown in
Figure 6, left. The 2005 model
year parts will have this identifi-
cation groove cut into the boss,
while the 2004 model year parts
will not.
You should always confirm
the engine model year by check-
ing the engine tag located on the
valve cover. A 2004 model year
engine will carry code 4G-992-
AA and a 2005 model year will
be identified as 5G-692-AA
