2 Questions: Engine Stuttering & Low Acceleration, Air Filter
Morning yall,
I have 2 questions:
First Question:
I've been noticing that my truck is stuttering between 50 MPH and 65 MPH.
I've also noticed that there's a lower rate of acceleration (I almost had to floor it to get onto the freeway this morning).
But there's no 'Check Engine' light on.
After searching through this forum, it seems one/some/or all of the coils or spark plugs is due to go bad? Should I keep driving it until I do get a 'Check Engine' light?
It's annoying the heck out of me.
Note: I've changed my spark plugs when it hit 100,000 miles
Second question:
Yesterday, I've changed the air filter on my truck as I do every 3 months.
I often inspect the old one for anything out of the ordinary.
(Its always just accumulated dirt/dust)
However, this time I noticed on the corners facing towards the throttle body, there was more of a 'black grease/sludge' dirt.
Im assuming this means I have to clean out my throttle body?
Can anyone confirm?
Thanks in advance

One more thing.
A couple of weeks ago, the battery went dead.
After taking it to O'Reilly to confirm it was dead and no longer rechargeable, I bought a new one and installed it.
I pretty sure the problem listed above (stuttering, low acceleration) started after I changed the battery.

Check your FPDM...mounted to the frame rail under your spare tire...un-bolt it and look at the back side...they corrode severely and cause problems like you mentioned.

Morning yall.
I forgot to update this thread.
Here's the update:
Seeing and researching all other threads, it kept narrowing down to the coils and spark plugs.
I knew my truck was already due for a spark plug change, so I went to Oreilly to get all the plugs.
On the day that I was going to change the plugs, my truck threw a flashing code while driving on the freeway while I was accelerating from 50 MPH to 65MPH. It was stuck at 55MPH for about 20 secs. I wanted to pull over, but it was the morning rush hour and I was only a minute away from my workplace.
I used the code reader.
Code was P0305 (Cylinder# 5 Misfire).
Just to be sure, I bought a new Coil to replace the old coil in Cylinder# 5.
After work, I changed all the spark plugs. Some for sure needed to be changed.
When I was changing out the coil, I decided to use a multimeter and check the Ohms on the old coil for Cylinder# 5 and check the Ohms on the new coil:
OLD Coil: 1.8 Ohms
NEW Coil: 2.9 Ohms
Im not sure if this is a legit way to check if a coil is bad or not, just FYI.
But I guess for sure, if you're truck is hesitating/stuttering but have not gotten code, it means your PAST DUE for a tune up.

Regarding this, I did open the throttle body for a cleaning.
It looked pretty well when I pulled it out, but I cleaned it anyway.
