Well, not to contradict anyone as different areas of the country have different products available, but a year ago I put 18" FX4 rims on my XL, and I had no problems finding tires to fit. I went to a local Discount Tire and had a couple Goodyear Wrangler options, BFG, Yokohama, and a few others. Now, I did have to pay $150/tire for the Wranger AT/s 275/65 tires that I got, but they've been great. The Wranglers were the 2nd cheapest option I believe, but I had no interest in the cheaper option.

there are some sweet deals on overstocked wheels at centerline.com

you can get a nice set of wheels delivered for under a grand, and some closer to 900 bucks.

I got these last year off ebay for 200 shipped. They are 17's off a 2006 Explorer. Keep your eyes peeled. There are a lot of deals out there.
