Default 17" or 18" wheels?

Im looking for a set of alloys to replace the plain jane 17" steelies on my 06 XL. I want to stay with OEM wheels because I like the look and I can get them cheaper than aftermarket wheels.
If I stay with 17s, I will run 265/70s. If I go with 18s I will go with 275/65s.
My question is, what would be the advantage to going with 18s over 17s? The disadvantage is that the tires are quite a bit cheaper for 17s.
This is a 4X4 truck, I dont road race it or do any off roading to speak of, Im just looking for wheels that look better than the steelies.

Not sure exactly what your wanting. Sounds like you answered your own questions..

Finding tires for 18" is a PITA.. 17" tires will be much cheaper and more available. My buddy has 18" FX4 rims and he found 1 place that had tires for 18" rims after looking at about 30 places.. If he had 17" he could of got any tire he wanted because they are readily available.

There is no advantage of running 18" rims unless you go with a bigger brakes.

Just curious.. why would you run 265s with 17" rims and 275s with 18' rims?

You did good at answering.
Im just looking for advantages or disadvantages to either diameter. The only disadvantage I found for the 18 was tire price, you came up with another.
The reason I picked those two sizes is they are actually less than 1/2" difference in height and those are the most popular sizes in the 31" to 32" range

I guess I could depending on what brand I go with. The brand and style I was looking at didnt come in that size.
I guess I shouldve said I didnt want to go over 32" diameter, which would limit me to anything 275 or under.
Either way, it seems that the 17s are easier to find and cheaper to buy.

Yes they are. My buddy had a hard time finding them. Only way he could get a tire in 18" was to order it and have them driven in from another tire shop in another state...

He was able to find BFG AT's in 18" somewhere but he paid out the ***.
