I dunno, doesn't seem that bad. It's ~$45-$55 just for an oil change here (local quick place, not ford $25 for a car though and up to 5 quarts of oil. Pay cost of every quart after 5) and that's every 3-5000 miles. $130 for a tranny flush that's more involved and done only every 30,000 miles doesn't seem bad at all?

That's not a bad price for materials and labor.
I do prefer to do the work myself.
If you're going to do the work yourself, look into one of the threads about installing a drain plug in the transmission pan, or switching to the OEM pan with a plug. That way, only the first pan drop will be so messy.

yeah i don't think thats too bad either. With the transmission fluid changing you MUST be exact in fluid amounts. over filling can be just as bad as under filling... worth the $130 IMO. Heck try taking in your own fluid and filter to see if they will do it cheaper...

They take less than 5 quarts if you drop the pan only. The service manual and Ford are going to quote you system capacity. These trans aren't filled with proprietary fluid, regular old Type V found off the shelf at the local store is all one needs. Some converters have a drain plug. IMO if the maintenance is regular as it should be, it is unnecessary to drain the TQ. Buy a Motorcraft filter and invest in the pan drain plug mod.
Edit: Disposal is free at gypo parts house.

I would vote for the DIY on this one. It might not save you a lot of money, but if you like working on your truck and making things just right, this is an easy (but maybe a bit messy) job to take on. I second the notion of not needing a full flush, just drop the pan and change the filter and then just refill. Just a note....don't be freaked out like I was with a mystery plastic part in the pan that you can't figure out where it came from. If the pan has never been off before, this is the plug that was where the dipstick tube got installed at the factory. They just push it on into the pan.....I guess it also serves as a good indicator if the filter has ever been replaced?

Thanks to all for the heads up. The thread i found on here said bout $30 for oil and filter, so when i heard $130 total i was like DAMN!! And thats not a flush, just a regular service.
I do like working on my own truck and dont mind getting messy. Just need to make sure i do it right........soooo keep the tips coming.
Since i use "upgraded" motor oil (mobile 1/k&n filter), what kind of tranny fluid should i use??

I run castrol transmax mercon V, its available pretty much everywhere.. Its good stuff too..
Amsoil ATF, Wolfs head ATF, and royal purple are a few good "premium" transmission fluids..
For oil I personally prefer Amsoil signature series 5w-30 oil with an Amsoil filter..
