1.5" wheel adapters-safe?

The dangers are, I was running a 1.5 adapter spacer on my 67 camaro. I had to run them on all 4's because I was running 02 SS camaro wheels. I drove it a few times, I was making a turn, and the pressure of the weight of the wheel pulled the lugs through the spacer and the wheel came off, screwing up my fender. Luckly for me I was only going 2-3 mph when it happened. I would not recommend anything more then 1/2 spacer.

I run adpaters on my truck and on my Trans Am. They are perfectly safe. My adapters are billet aluminum and when installed correctly, not hard to install, they are as safe as anything. I have never had any problems, ran the car down many a drag strips, highway at high enough speeds, around corners and as for the truck, I have been off road several times with absoultely no issues. Some people mistake a piece of metal between the wheel and the hubs as a spacer and I would never recommend that type of spacer, what you would be looking for is an adapter that bolts on.

I have heard horror stories about the spacers stripping and falling off... On the other hand I have first hand witnessed multiple vehicles doing things that they are NOT designed to do (eg. offroading, hill climbing) that have spacers and nothing went wrong even on the highway weeks later... So just read the reviews.

I have personally had wheel spacers on 2 dedicated trail Jeeps and several guys I wheel with have them as well. I have never seen a wheel fall off because of a spacer. I have also seen the wheels fall off of a Subaru that was driven out of a shop after a tire rotation/oil change because they forgot to tighten the lug nuts. I would imagine the majority of these wheel spacer horror stories are from improper installation or a cheap product.
