i have to disagree with that one... my 07 silverado had a 4.3 v6 in it and I had a sido with a turbo muffler and man it sounded like a v8.. everyone that ever heard it would swear i had a v8 in it till they looked under the hood.

But I do not know how the 4.2's will sound.

Any "single in - single out" or "single in - dual out" from the V8 setups will work in the 4.2 V6's.

While the V8 owners will state, the sound of a V6 is not that of the V8, but don't let that stop you; allowing any engine to breathe better will benefit you in the area of torque/hp and a small gain in MPG. Add a better air cleaner setup, and you will see additional improvements. If your budget permits, you can add a "tune" to our V6:

I have ordered the above, and will post the results in the near future.

So, while we V6 owners don't have the additional 2 cylinders of the V8's, we can still perform the same improvements, and gain from it as well.

Personally, I don't perform any improvements on my truck for "sound", but rather to increase power and MPG, so any comments pertaining to "it won't sound right" are ignored. Besides, how do you define what sounds right, and what doesn't???

I have a 2005 4.2 V6 with a K&N semi CAI, and a single in, single out exhaust with a free flowing exhaust. Sounds great to me; not loud, nice rumble, and I have noticable improvements in performance and documented MPG increase (2.3 highway increase).

And besides, we don't have the noisy lifter problems, nor the broken spark plug issues!

I think my browser is messing up... sorry if this is a double post.

I'd say quite a few of them sounded pretty good...

Honestly I think the flowmaster sounds the best on a V6. Not quite V8 territory but to 95% of drivers on the road they would never know the difference not to mention it has a signature low idle that usually only happens with a V8.
