Default 08 F150 replacement key question

I lost a key and keyless remote the other day for my pickup. I was just going to buy a new remote and key off ebay, but then did some research. Do I need a key with a transponder in it for my pickup? I do have an alarm. Somewhere I read that you need 2 working keys to program a third, but I only have 1 key now. Can I make something work out without going to the dealer and paying them to do it? How easy are the new remotes to program? Any help would be great.

You can get the keys from eBay then find a locksmith that will cut and program it. Once you have two keys programmed you can then program a new one your self by following instructions from the owners manual.

Could walmart program the transponder?

I just ordered a transponder key & remote off ebay. I am going to find a locksmith to program it I think.

Yeah I'm interested in knowing that as well. I bought my truck used and only had 1 key. I got another transponder key from ebay but haven't had it cut yet and would like to know if Walmart can really do this.

I had the same problem. Luckily my brother -in law is a locksmith. I had to pay for the key, he cut it AND programed it for me. This must be done, other wise it won't start.

If any if you know a good shop that has spent some money on tools they will have a computer that can program your keys. Like the other people said if you have 2 working keys you can add as many more as you like with out ever seeing a shop, to fix this I have purchased 4 more keys off eBay at 8 dollars each had them cut at Wally world and programed 2 of them to each of my trucks now if I lose one I still have 3 working and have time to get replacement.

I don't think Wal-Mart has the capability to program keys...they can cut your key...
