Default 08 F 150 XLT SC Instrument Cluster/Electrical Issue

2008 F 150 XLT Super Cab purchased new. Chimes sound, gauges drop, some or all of the warning lights come on, AC stops working. If I beat on the dash or under the steering column that will fix it for a while. The odometer is also not coming on. If I shut the ignition off while in this mode the radio will continue playing when I open the door. Also have noticed at night when I open the door the dome light doesn’t always come on, this started after I had an aftermarket remote starter installed about 4 or 5 years ago. This could go on throughout the day or I may not have a problem for a couple of days. I have checked fuses
Thanks

I know a lot of odd issues are cause by cold solder joints in the cluster itself. Might be a good place to start.

Default 2008 F-150 Gauge Cluster Electrical Issue

Just found this post. I have exactly the same problem. 2008 F150 Limited SuperCrew AWD.
Anyone found the problem?

The thread starter last logged in on 9-26-14, so I doubt he’ll be back.

These issues are quite similar to GEM issues in 10th Gen trucks, but those went by the wayside for central junction boxes. I think yours is in the passenger side kick panel. Give it a looking over.

Also, I have seen weird stuff happen with bad solder joints on these clusters. Pulling that would be the next step.

I had similar problem as described above. I had dash cluster replaced. Now my radio is having issues. No speed volume nor line in for Ipad/Ipod. Anyone else experience similar problems with dash cluster replacement?

Thumbs up Solved, at last.

I ended up calling a cluster technician (Speed-O-Repair, Lubbock, TX). The tech came to my parking lot while I was working, removed my cluster, re-soldered EVERY solder point on the cluster's entire PCB, replaced the cluster in my dash, closed it all up, and all problems were solved. He said it was a common issue, and he's done it dozens of times on older Ford vehicles.

That was done on Friday, Sept. 3, at 10am. It is now Tuesday, Sept. 7, 9pm. and I have driven it daily for four days, in and out of town, in and out of traffic, over bumps and dips, about 500 miles, and ZERO problems. Plus a 90 day warranty. $150. Not bad. Tomorrow, I'll make a 300 mile round trip on the highway, and I'm betting the issue will not appear then or ever again.
