Default 08 with brown coil boot spark plug change:

Okay my 08 has nearly 100K on it, and I want to change out the original spark plugs. Since I have the brown boots I should have the newer one piece plugs so removal should be like any other spark plug removal right? Just wanna double check before I dive into it and start breaking plugs off without the extractor tool leaving my truck dead in the driveway. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Tad

Normal plugs to change!! easy easy!
Be sure to change the boots, make sure the replacements are brown too.

This is the best tech bulletin to go by while doing plugs on a 08.
http://autolite.com/sites/default/a/uploads/en/autolite_ht_bulletin_0.pdf
I just replaced mine last week and this sheet is awesome! autolite makes the oem plugs for ford so if anyone would know how to remove and replace them properly, they would. I went ahead and changed my COP boots as well. you dont have to but its probably a good idea to since you have them out and I think I paid like $35 for all 8. Make sure to unplug and remove the PCM (located on the pass. side firewall) and the PCM blacket thats on the firewall so you are able to access the rear plugs. I followed the autolite tech bulletin and all 8 came out without breaking. The only thing I did differently is let the carb cleaner sit for and hour instead of 30mins. hope this helps and good luck!

Well I went by two local auto part stores (Advance & Auto Zone) Neither one of them had the brown coil boots, and they were trying to sell my Autolite plugs vs the Motorcraft ones since they didn't have any in stock. They had the Autolite (two part #'s) and NGK Iridum Plugs, and Double Platinums.

If I can't get the Motorcraft plugs which Autolite plugs are the correct ones for the brown coil boots? I wanna make sure I get the right stuff before I have a Ford down kinda day haha... Sorry for asking all these questions, but I DO NOT trust anyone at those part stores for advice lol.

If you have brown boots, tell the morons at the counter you have an 09 with a 5.4
Some parts guys cant wrap their head around that.
Autolite plugs are great of ford IMO

autolite and motorcraft are the same plugs for the 5.4. The cheapest I found is rockauto.com. I think i spent around $140 shipped, plugs, cop boots and fuel filter all motorcraft. I ordered on a sunday and it showed up on wednesday. make sure you order for a 09 as stated above

I think I'm going to hold off a week or two and replace the coils at the same time. Jegs has the Accel coils and Motorcraft plugs for $355.00. That way I'll get it all over and done with. I truly appreciate the help and yeah 09 is a lot easier than trying to explain I have an 08 with 09 ignition parts lol.

Send them back. You need SP509s for the brown boots.
