checked all my cops. checking all my vac lines I noticed the idiots that did my plug change broke off and then half *** repaired the top line going into the cluster near the master power assy. I think this is the vapor management valve?? I've siliconed it just to see if it would change anything but either the didn't take or its not the problem. Doesn't help that neg degrees outside. This kinda crap always happens in the dead of winter. It seems at start up it idles fine but once its put in gear the rough idling begins, took it up and down the road and floored it going 10 mph and it would go anywhere and wants to die.

Probably to late now, however, I would go with some black electic tape to initially fix the leak, then silicone when it gets warmer.

well I ended up with p1000, p0016, p2198, ended up taking it to my local garage. compression test had only 4 cylinders firing on the passenger side, none of the driver side is firing. My mech is pulling the drivers valve cover to investigate further.

I'll post an update when he finds something.

So my problem ended up being a driver side completely clogged cat. However I drove it around 20 miles to work and it dies pulling into the spot. Starts right back up just fine. I drove it two more days and at the end of each trip it wants to chug and die. It seems to run fine once the oil pressure is up. After 3 days the check engine light finally came on sporting p012 (bank 1 int cam pos timing over retard) and p022 (b2 int cam pos timing over retard) I have some stored/pending codes as well (p0340, p0344 p0345 p0349).

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS THING?
Would getting the cam phaser lockouts help? I would think that if I locked them out it would still throw codes

I thought you already knew your problem. What is stopping you from replacing the cat?

Make sure that mechanic didn't forget to plug everything back up when he pulled that cover

The cat has been replaced, the problem now is the pos is retarding the timing, drops below 500 RPMs at stoplights then dies. Not to mention its dangerous. This engine design is the biggest pos on the planet. **** poor design and lack of Ford owning up to their problem. Btw I've owned 3 mustangs 2 explorers and 4 f150s. I hope some Ford exec is reading these posts and see how pissed and frustrated people are.

Just replaced passenger cat and sensor. A clogged cat can cause a loss of power and eventually send back pressure to your engine and mess it up. Knock on the cats with something metal (screw driver is ideal) and see if it sounds hollow. If it sounds solid than it needs to be changed

I'll say it again, I've replaced the drivers side cat, the passenger side is working as it should, it has been tested, still have no explanation why it wants to retard the timing. Sometimes it will want to die when stopping other times it runs/idles fine while stopping. I'm looking into the lockouts with the programmer from livernois.

Possible VCT solenoid failure? I'm shooting from the hip but could they be causing the idle problem?
