Default 06 XLT 4X4 question

After a couple of months of not engaging 4 wheel drive, I attempted today. When I turn the switch to 4hi or 4 lo, no dash lights come one and 4 wheel drive doesnt engage. Both 4hi and 4lo lights up when I turn the ignitiion on so I know the dash is good. I tried switching while in park and while moving at couple of MPH with no luck.

Anyone have any advice?

Thanks

It shouldn't make a difference, but did you try shifting into 4wd while in nuetral?

I had the same problem. 4hi and 4lo haven't worked in weeks. Light wouldn't come on. Finally got a chance today to get underneath the truck. I removed the 4 bolts attaching the electric transfer motor (not sure if that is the correct name) to the transfer case. Very easy to do and only took a couple of minutes with a 10mm wrench. Would have taken less if I could have found my wratchet. Once it was off, I had my wife change it from 2hi to 4hi while in neutral and watched the motor turn. It worked fine and I also noticed that the 4hi light came on. I then took a wrench and turned the post in the transfer case from 2hi to 4hi(it is marked on the transfer case). It moved very easily. I put everything back together and amazingly I have 4wd again. I tested it going down the road and it definitely engaged properly(I could feel it grab while going around a corner). Seems as though it was just stuck. This was very easy. I've noticed several people say that dealers tell them to turn on the 4hi once a month, maybe this is why.
