Default 06 F150 questions

I got a K&N filter for my stock air box and want to know if the air box can be modified for better air flow. I was thinking about removing the small part at the end of the box that inserts into the fender. Also I am using mobil 1 synthetic in the crank case and want to know if anyone is using a synthetic in their tranny or rear diff.

i modded my 07 5.4 in this manner. Replaced the tip of the intake with a 3" pvc tube. Better throttle response.

Synthetics in any "cavity" extend the length to next change, although I'd still follow the manufacturers recommendation as to rear end and tranny. Synthetics in the engine prolong oil changes by about 2 to 3 thousand (should not be new news to anyone!), and I usually follow this route pertaining to the engine oil.

As to the airbox modification, there is a good pictorial step by step proceedure on how to modify the existing stock air box. This can be found on the "other" Ford F150 forum "How To" section.
