I'm experiencing two different issues with my 2006 F150 XLT. ISSUE 1: Periodically, 2-3 times a week when driving over a rough patch in a road my truck will start making a noise like a chain is dragging from underneath. The noise only lasts 5-10 seconds and sounds horrible. I can't figure out exactly where the noise if coming from though. Any help with this issue would be appreciated. ISSUE 2: When accelerating and turning left after coming to a complete stop the rear end of my truck with get a brief but obvious vibration. Thanks again for any help.

I had a similar sound a few months ago. One way to check this out (if you have a 4x4) is by engaging you 4-wheel drive while the sound is on. It ended up being my IWE solenoid. It could be that the solenoid is disengaging the vacuums and your hubs are partially engaging. Over the long run it could potentially cause damage. But it's not immediate. If it ends up being the solenoid, it'll run you $30.

The old solenoids (05-06) didn't have a plastic shield to prevent rain from getting in, so it shorts out. It's located on the firewall on the passenger side.

A very similar noise is made when heat sheilds under the truck get loose, 4wd or 2wd.
As for the vibration, sounds like you could have a wheel bearing going out.

Fbcoach, what will engaging the 4x4 tell me?

It should stop the noise when you click it into 4wd. As for the rear end noise, sounds like the clutch packs in the rear dif. Do a search on the forums or google to find out more.

This is right on. It will disengage the vacuum and lock the hubs, therefore stopping the sound. I FREAKED when I first heard the noise. I thought I dropped my exhaust (which would have been terrible, but good because then I could upgrade haha).
