Depending on the size of the dent, fill it in with some bondo (or have a body shop do this), sand it smooth, then re-paint. The cost to have this type of work done may be cheaper (with less work hassle) then removing the dented piece and installing a new one.

the piece is only around 25 bucks or so if i remember right, he is referring to the black plastic trim on the door, above the hanle. why ford never painted it, is beyond me?

Ah ha....confusion on my part...I thought he was refering to the large black piece to the right of the window, between the front and rear door.
