Again, thank you for the visuals, as I tend to learn better with. Would you have to cut the washer off when it comes time to replace your O2 Sensor(s)? Also, When you say you heated up the bolts, you meant cutting them off via a torch?

What they fail to realize is that even if there are no local sniff or visual inspections required in their state, there is a federal law that supersedes any state law. Simply put, you cannot operate a vehicle on public roads without its federally mandated smog equipment. Lucky for many, the police are simply too busy to stop you and issue a citation for this. Should you go and sell or trade in the vehicle without this equipment, it's illegal, no matter if you sell it with an "as is" clause in the paperwork or not. A dealer/used car lot or private individual cannot sell a vehicle without this equipment. Huge fine if/when caught.

I mentioned this before in other threads: my son got nailed when he sold his Subaru WRX STi without the cats. He sold it privately, with an 'as is, no warranty' in the bill of sale, and the buyer signed. Two weeks later my son was served papers, as the buyer lived in a state that had state inspections. It failed the visual test. He had two choices: full refund, or install the cats at his cost. If he refused, he was going to have to pay a huge fine, more than the sale price of the vehicle.
Yes, I believe I read that before sir. The reason I said I would just cut them off is because I am low on funds, and with my condition from my injuries from stepping on a I.E.D. I can't work on my vehicle as much anymore. I know that is not an excuse, but it is the situation I am in at the moment.
Thank you for your response again sir.

I used a torch with a brazing tip on it to heat the nut only, not the stud at the exhaust manifold. This way the nut will come off easier.

To change my O2 sensor now I simply take the two 5/16" nuts off on the top side of the washer. This will allow the sensor and washer to come off as a unit. The threads inside the catalytic converter have been untouched and should accept a new sensor without any issues.

I was coming into this thread to say to check your cats, but it's good to hear you got it under control already. Thanks for posting your solution. It's great when somebody follows up on a thread with the fix, for everyone in the future.

Holy ssss...I remember reading this and pondering how the plugged cat can cause a misfire/dead cylinder type symptoms. I did my plugs Saturday and have had symptoms like that since, just before I did my plugs, I did notice weird power losses till certain rpm and throttle position, figured nothing of it as I was about to do my plugs. Well I've gone over everything 5 times, everything is plugged in, all is good. I'll be dropping g the exhaust tomorrow to check this before it gets towed to the shop. Thank you for this post, I will stay posted on my results.

Keep us posted.. If your mis-fire codes are from one bank only, remove that most forward O2 sensors and let it hang during a test drive. 1234 (right side) 5678 (left side).

No need to thank me. Instead, I thank you for your service in the armed forces, and hope for a speedy recovery to you!

Update on my issue as of this morning. My edge finally came up with some soft codes, still no cel. P0174, lean bank 2 and p0355, coil 5 circut. This is after putting it around about 5 miles, parked it and both front cats were glowing red. now glowing red cats is a symptom of a motor running rich, bit the p0174 contradicts that. I'm definitely thinking I have the plugged cat issue. I will be dropping the exhaust after work.

Update...dropped my cats today after work, all seems fine there. Investigated my p0355 code, pulled the plug, definitely my dead cylinder. Took the plug back and warrentied for a new, came back, same problem, 99% sure its the coil now but taking it to my buddies shop to have it checked out in full. I'll post when I have more info.
