if the mechanic did the vct sole I'd make him replace it again and see what happens, there is no reason it should be still throwing this code if it was installed properly. Also, he should have checked your timing chain/tensioner belt when he replaced the VCT solenoid.

I'm sorry, I may be thinking of the wrong thing then. It was this:

(not that exact one, just what he replaced. Also it was not my trusted mechanic that did the work... Just a repair shop)

you are correct brother on the VCT Solenoid. But usually a good mechanic will test your chain/belt and ensure all your time is correct after changing out the solenoid. Its a pretty easy part to replace, however it can be a pain the **** to install and could have been damaged on the install.

I'd have him redo the VCT solenoid, esp b/c you have a code proving its not working, and have your trusted mechanic run a test on the timing....

With all the work you have done already, I'd just stick with that for now... I can't imagine it being anything else at this point, sounds like its literally just something to do with your engine timing.

That's what I'm thinking. I'll know at 10 o'clock tomorrow!

as for the parts.... What phasers would you reccomend and/or the whole timing set. If he's going to be in there and only charge 30 an hour for labor... plus do it right.

That looks unbeatable

haha, great price partner.

Have him test it first, could be a much cheaper solution. Which means I'll cross my fingers for you. Curious to hear about what he sees... keep in touch.

My 2005 was shaking at the 45 mph range last year. Missing. Finally put out a few codes relating to the oxygen sensors. Had two changed out. Ran great for a bit and started shaking again. My mechanic thought it may have been a bad electrical connection or short in a harness wire. He trouble shot it for a day. Unplugging and testing wire connections. Told me he found nothing bad, cleared the codes, and told me to bring it back when more codes popped up. Turns out it ran great from then on. It did not throw another code for the last 5 months I owned it. I am thinking he accidently fixed a bad connection by unplugging and reconnecting things. Hard to tell. I read lots of things about shuttering in 2005 trucks at 45 mph. Lots of opinions on the cause.

I just thought about this and I don't know why I didn't mention it earlier. And this goes for you too runner, the 2005 F150 was the year when Ford had a huge recall on defected Fuel Injectors. It was for 04-06 models but 05 was the worst.

Ford realized that the injector problem in turn messed up alot of **** in the engine... to including misfires from spark plugs/cops and other items that needed to be replaced. It might be worth bringing it into the dealer and claiming your truck feels like it is misfiring and that you know there was a recall on these injectors for the 05, pretty sure they have to check it out for free b/c it was a huge deal when they had to recall all the trucks...

Might be worth the trip... just thought I'd add that...Hope this helps.

I'll take it in, nothing like a free fix! I'll see what they say and have them look at some other things while their at it. Thanks for pointing that out.

So... It was the worst case scenario. He told me that there's slack in the tensioner belt... I believe that's what he said. He said the parts and labor aren't worth doing to the truck at this point, I might as well drop a new engine considering the miles. On the other hand he said I have a very long time before it finally craps out, he told me it drives incredibly well and isn't bad at all... good news I guess?

So I came to the conclusion to sell it and get something new in the $20k range, the summer has treated me well. I had a StealerShip give me a call today and was very interested in me doing a trade in for a new truck.

Here's the link to my thread on craigslist, let me know what you think I could realistically get for it at the dealership/ Private Party
