Default 05 lariat. Steering wheel shakes at 70mph

K so a few months ago I changed upper control arm and lower ball joints as well as cool overs and a few months before that I changed discs and pads and everything had been fine but now every time I hit 70 mph I get a noticeable steering wheel shake. I also notice it when I'm going down hill and I start to brake. Anybody got any idea where I should start trouble shooting? TIA

Many threads about this and it could be a bunch of stuff, but a few things to check. Parking brake, they are known to lock up, need to be taken apart and cleaned/greased. Mine froze up on mine and it caused shaking. Also check LBJs, mine were shot at 80k miles. Driveshaft also has known balancing issues, finally maybe tires just need balancing. Does it shake when brakes are applied? If so obviously rotors.

So I was just saw the search feature on my phone. Sorry guys, should've started there. Well I checked my tires and sure enough the weight on the front driver side is missing. I'm going to have it re-balanced and hopefully that fixes it. I'll post after and let everyone one if that was the problem.

Go to a place that offers a road force balance. They do a much better job with these trucks.

I've had tires that balanced fine with a regular machine and came out way off on the hunter gsp9700 road force balance machine.

It puts pressure on the tire while spinning to simulate the weight of the truck on the tire while it's driving.

Does a far more accurate job at balancing.

Also could be a bubble on the tire or even an out of round wheel.

I was going to say to check balance. My truck did the same thing after the dealership rotated my tires for me. One of the wheels was missing a weight. I could see where it was, and I guess it fell off. I don't think the dealership balanced them, they just rotated.

Mine would shake from 68-73 and then calm back down. Had all 4 balanced, and the problem went away.

It's also possible you may have a belt separating. If you end up with a ton of weight on a wheel after balancing, it's probably time for some new rubber.
