Default 05 fx4 worth trading for?? advice please

hello new here, was curious to hear from the owners of the new model f-150's about how they feel about the truck, i have a 94 f-150 5.0 with 300,000 miles never had a problem out of it, i have a 02 crew cab 178,000 miles never had a problem with it, but a guy wants to trade me his 05 ext. cab lariat 4x4 with 166k on it for my 02 model, now give my 02 has duals harley davison 20's and some other extras he says he has already had the cam phaser and all changed in it. long story short im basicly asking what would you do in my shoes? and what kind of other problems can be expected out of the truck if i trade for it? thanks in advance!

Spark plugs should have been changed by then.. Obviously test drive it to make sure there's no tranny issues or drive problems I know when I bought my '04 I had the driveline clunk but that was an easy fix. I'd jump on it personally but I'm also not a big fan of the pre 2004 body styles and an FX4 is a nice package.

I would go for it but first...do you know the reason why he wants to trade his truck? Look it over good and make sure it doesn't have any serious issues. IMO the 04-08 is the toughest looking body style inside and out, the 5.4 3v is a great engine overall. Sparkplug change is no simple task but very doable for the average joe with the right tools and a couple hours of free time. Last but not least...If you do the trade, I highly recommend feeding that 3v with full synthetic 5w30. Your truck will thank you and your ears will thank you! Good luck and keep us posted.

yes i have read and heard spark plugs are a pain, but i also heard that it would be a pain in my 02 but it was pretty simple just time consuming, i own all fords the newest one i had was an 07 sport trac v8 4x4 just sold it was nothing but eletrical problems believe the old owner sunk it or something because it only had 60,000 miles on it lol. anyways he claims he just wants and needs a crew cab, but since i know my 02 is 100% problem free id hate to trade him and then it be a bad deal all around, how much service have you guys gotten out of your newer f150's? i believe before i trade 2 things will happen one def do an auto check report on the truck and number 2 take it to the ford place before i ever swap titles, i found an 02 f150 im looking at harley davison edition with 80,000 miles guy wants 11,000 or best offer but i really need a 4x4 where i live so kinda hard choice which is why i joined to talk to actual newer model f-150 owners for the personal opinions on these newer models.

I would make him provide receipts for the cam phaser replacements. Even if he can only show proof of parts purchased. Did a shop do the install or was it him? You are smart by the auto-check and having it looked at.

The slip yoke (part where the driveline connects to the rear end) gets dry and needs lube which makes a clunk noise on take off that can be felt and heard. It even refers to it in the owners Manuel not a hard fix

Haha it almost kept me from buying my truck but I took it in and the dealership charged me about 100$ but there's plenty of write ups on how to do it here
