I tried that, but there's a lip inside the filter boot preventing it from going any further. It's an AEM brand intake.

Yeah... thought what were they thinking ?? should of trimmed the plastic vice the metal intake tube...
I'm starting to think that the intake kit that's on there isn't even the right one. The install video on the AEM site makes it look as if the way it currently fits (having to cut the pipe) isn't even possible.

When you remove the throttle body to clean it, imagine how much of the crud got past the throttle plate, and into your cylinders.
Yeah i'll be working on it this weekend and i'll follow up. Re: the cylinders--anything you'd recommend that might help clean?

To the OP: get a stock air cleaner setup. It will work much better than the CAI you have; it draws cool air from the side fender, where as your setup is drawing warm engine air (that rubber seal is supposed to seal against the hood, but I'll bet that seal is not functioning as such), and that slit that was cut has been drawing unfiltered air into your engine for some time. Yeah, but.....

I'm pretty sure that hole was chafed in by the tube rubbing the box. We had a similar issue several years ago on one of our ag planes. Dusted out the rings and resulted in a new set of loaded jugs.
Just went back and re-examined the pic. Definitely chafed through. You can see the witness marks on the edge of the box. Sloppy installation.

One of these days I'm going to be asking you some more questions about that Whipple charger installation. You have given me an itch that's getting hard not to scratch....... dammit!

Clean the TB with TB cleaner like this:
Amazon.com: CRC 05078 Throttle Body and Air-Intake Cleaner - 12 Wt Oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: CRC 05078 Throttle Body and Air-Intake Cleaner - 12 Wt Oz.: Automotive

Clean MAF with MAF cleaner like this:
Amazon.com: CRC 05110 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner - 11 Wt Oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: CRC 05110 Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner - 11 Wt Oz.: Automotive

You'll want to use these cleaners as the MAF and TB have unique coatings on them that cleaners like brake parts cleaner would destroy. I think the 05 has drive by wire, but I would take the TB off and make sure there are no sand/rocks in there binding it up. Part of me would remove the intake manifold and clean it out as well.

If you are in Mn or willing to drive I have a 5.4 3v stock air intake you can have. The Gotts Mod was the only thing done to it and it has a really clean wix filter in it. This was removed when the CAI was put in there very many moons ago.

yeah the throttle body was definitely pretty nasty. Got it cleaned up and the truck seems to be running ok so far. Cleaned the MAF too--although that didn't seem that bad. I noticed minimal increase in HP, but there is a definite increase in MPG. Previously 15.4 was the best I could get, even w/the a/c off. Drove about 15 miles yesterday and another 25 today and i've been getting 16 to 16.2 MPG. Sweet!

I'd totally take that intake from you but i'm nowhere near Mn. But thanks for the offer!
