Default 04ish F150 won't crank :/

We picked up an 04 F150 XL Heritage, its got the 4.2 V6, manual, and is 2wd.
The truck won't crank, I pulled the starter and bench tested it, wouldn't turn over, made a pathetic little noise, so I replaced it. Well, it still won't crank, but I can start it by touching the power wire to the activation wire. So I'm assuming its some sort of saftey switch. Is the clutch saftey switch the black box on the rod under the dash? Do I just pop that weird clip off and slide it off? How can I test it and verify that its working?

Thank you for your time

Not sure...on my mustang the clutch switch was a simple open/close switch mounted on the clutch pedal, towards the top, I just unplugged and completed the circuit with a piece of wire, car started fine so I knew it was the clutch switch.

Have you tried replacing the starter solenoid on the firewall next to the battery?
