04 quits running
Hello
I have a 2004 F150 reg. cab, 4 wheel with a 5.4 in it.
Around 35000 miles it started to just quit running, but would start
right up again. Up hill down hill, high speed low speed any time just
quit and the check engine light did not stay on.
I put fuel line cleaner in, a new filter but it still quit.
On day the check light did stay on so I took it to the dealer.
Fuel system they said, they put a new pump in, on the way home
the truck quit 3 times back to the dealer. This time the control
for the fuel pump was replaced. I ran about 200 miles quit again with no light.
This time they thought it was loose wires. Ran about 100 miles,
light this time code for fuel system. Dealer said rust groun wire
on fuel pump control ( thought they changed that before)
Good for about 150 miles and has quit twice now with no light.
The dealer is not happy, they think I lie because the can not get
it to quit running when they have it. In all they had it around 30 days.
Any help before I trade this truck in
Thanks
Tex

I have a captain at the fire dept, and his 04 did they same things yours did. Come to find out, his was burning oil, and they (the dealership) couldnt give him a straight answer on why, or where it was coming from. The tried everything from a new comp, to all the thigs you've done, and finally they took the truck back, and @ 47,000 miles, they replaced his motor, and never had the same problems come up. Hopefully this can help you.

That situation is one of the hardest ones to try to diagnose. Unless there is a scan tool on it that tells you what happened when the truck quit finding a solution is nearly impossible. Especially when its so intermittent. I would take it back to the dealer and have them keep it until they find the problem. Call them at least every other day. Get ready to start a lemon law on the truck. Might check into that in your state.
