My guess would be the HU too.
Which HU do you have?
Go with an ebay replacement OEM or Aftermarket.
Soon, probably the end of Jan., I am replacing the HU in my 04 Lariat Scab so I won't need my stock Audiophile HU and sub and was going to hold on to them or sell them on ebay but........
My stock unit is a 6-disc indash standard not mp3.

This may not be your solution, but with the Ford stock radios (Head Units), if ONE speaker is shorted (+ wire shorted to - wire), the ENTIRE sound output is dead.
So ask yourself if you've been working on the speakers, or if you've had the door panels (front or rear) off recently.
Again, perhaps not your problem, but I figured I'd post here in case someone does a future search.
