04 FX4 4x4 problem
Hey yall I have a 04 FX4 and my 4x4 works in 4hi b but not in 4lo. Only time I had any problems with it was over a year ago and the 4lo wouldn't disengage. Anyone know might be causing this?

One way is to tap it with a hammer. Not to hard though. Put the truck in neutral, parking brake on, and switch it to 4 lo. Crawl under and tap the shift motor. If engages to 4 lo, you know the shift motor is seizing up.
Another way is to take the shift motor out. Leave it plugged in and have a buddy shift to 4 high then 4 lo. You'll see it move or not.
Remember to always have the transmission in neutral, and truck at a stop when shifting to 4 lo.
