Default 04 F150 exhaust leak.

I have developed..actually its been leaking since I bought it, but its driving me nuts...and exhaust leak. It sounds like its the passenger side. Just curious to see what is the most common of these motors to leak. I know the manifolds tend to warp, but i have also heard stories of just the collector leaking. Either way, I want it fixed. I know my best bet would be just to buy new manifolds, but I may just throw new gaskets in temporarily until I save a little more to change the manifolds. Has anyone taken off the manifolds on their truck of this year? I dont know if it would be easier or harder. It was cake on my 99 with the 3 inch body lift, but I wouldnt think its any worse on my 04. I also was going to install my two in leveling kit(I got for free BTW!!) in at the same time.

never did it yet, but i don't look hard, i would find a used low mileage manifold though if you think yours are warped.

RH side

LH side

I did it on my '04 and I recommend spending the money to have it done! In order to put headers on you will things that most people dont have in the garage; pipe benders & welders. But if your just swapping out the gaskets and keeping the stock manifolds you might lucky, but if one or more of the bolts break off in the head, like mine did, your going to be taking it to the shop anyways. I put shorties on and I noticed a little bit of a power increase at 3,000+ when I took into the shop to have the broken bolt removed I has them take off the 2 rear cats also..between the headers, 2 less cats and a few other things I done, I get an average of a little over 16 MPG's in the city.

that was from a ford tech manual, the haynes books are junk! they are not detailed enough, IMO
