Default 04 f150 130k miles RUBBER MALLET to fuel tank to start fuel pump

so as the title states, I have to wack my fuel tank with a mallet to get fuel pump to start I have checked fuel pump relay, fuel injector fuse, replaced fpsm above spare tire, replaced filter, is the pump toast or what? or should I check a certain wireing harness if so where and which one? thanks

Well it sounds like its smoked.

Either way you need to pull the box off.

One last thing if you can, reach over the tank and check the plug for the pump. Does your fuel gauge still work?

The plug clips right on to the fuel hat and is usually on the left hand side. You will need to go in from that side.

left side drivers side? towards the front or the rear of the tank?? I should be able to feel around and check for loose wireing without removing bed or dropping the tank?

I don't know your wheelbase / configuration but on my 04 RC the hat is 1' back from the cab. Look under the truck (Drivers side) and you will see a cover on the frame rail and the park brake cable catch bracket. It's somewhat up over there.

There are two ways to get to the fuel pump, the hard way (drop the tank) and the less hard way (take the bed off the frame). Taking the bed off the frame is less work, just need a buddy to help lift it off.
