E-Fan Replacement
Hello all,
The other day i was sitting in traffic and luckily right after i got off the exit, the truck chimed and said reduced engine power. I figured it was something with my custom tune going a little wonky. Anyway, pulled the codes with the gryphon and got the Cylinder head temp was too high, looked down at my temp gauge and saw it was in the red.
Pulled into a Target parking lot and popped the hood and waited for it to cool. Started the truck again and found that my fan wasn't turning on at whatever temp. Luckily when i turn on the A/C it turns on both fans so i have been driving around with the A/C on to prevent overheating.
So i thought the controller was going bad so I emailed Brian at DC Controllers (my Troyer controller went bad in less than a year) to get his opinion and he thinks the bearings are going bad on the fan and that the controller is OK.
That being said, I had the Troyer E Fan setup which has now gone under so I am wondering what my options are for replacements? Brian said he thinks the Troyer setup used Derale fans which he also said were good quality so I was thinking about those but wanted to get some opinions from everyone before i spend more money.
any help is appreciated!

Yep - Derale Tornados - 16".
http://derale.com/products/electric-...r--10an-detail

Other option - Motorcraft RF269 ( OEM F150 2010 efans ). Info & specs ( spec on post #16), in this thread: https://www.f150forum.com/f4/motorcr...ghlight=rf-269
Brian is good people! Ask him about the OEM efans - he knows those cold.
Good luck!

Thanks MGD!
Do you think if i got a replacement 16 fan, it would still bolt up to the setup that troyer came with? or would i need to custom fab another "frame" to hold that one?
I have also looked at that OEM E Fan thread, just going back and forth between replacing the whole thing or just one fan...
Brian has recommended Derale, the Lincoln Mark VIII or the Tbird fan, as well as the OEM one but said i would need a bigger controller so decisions decisions....

Mike said years ago it was a Tornado - the specs are on that Derale page - measure to ensure they didn't redesign it significantly.
RF269's are da bomb - but yeah as post 16 shows (and those specs are direct from Brian) they draw quite a bit - but boy do they move air, lol!
Treat yerself to a new fans and a new controller - sell yer old one in the Classifieds.
Best o' luck!
Cheers!

You're one of the few that Brian talks to. I used to have his DC-Controller in my 2005 F150 that ran a "true" 2 speed Mark VIII e-fan. I sold the truck, and tried to get another controller from Brian two years ago. After waiting weeks for delivery, I called (several times without a call back). I cancelled the order through PayPal, and bought a Flex-O-Lite controller to use with my 2 speed Mark VIII fan. Been running it for two years now, without any issues.
He has great controllers, but his customer service could use some work. There are other controllers that work with high amp e-fans, so he's not the god of controllers anymore!

I reckon it's all in the approach; recognizing he, like many very small business owners - has a life and other priorities. Patience is a virtue.
As fer controllers - no one else offers a hand-made, designed-and-built-in-the-USA constant-temperature variable-speed, soft-start device (the ONLY type that folks should ever be considering due to their superior attributes), that has a True continuous ~100 Amp load capability (FK95 with 8-gauge wire loom - 260A output stage).
Sound engineering, bulletproof design and top-shelf construction ( I had one apart to repair an abused, mis-installed unit ).
Fal's controllers - like their efans - are overrated and overpriced. IMHO.

The reason I picked Painless controller is because of the VSS feature. It allows you to set the fan OFF when the truck is rolling.

For myself - never had an issue with Brian's CS. In fact he offered free tech support on a second-hand product with zero warranty - all in a friendly and timely manner.

One being the Ron Francis, the other being a flex-o-lite. The Mark VIII (two speed) is one of the fans that pulls a large amp draw at start up, which likes to eat cheap controllers. My son now has the Ford Ranger with the Mark VIII fan and the Ron Francis controller, and my current F150 is using a flex-o-lite and Mark VIII fan, both with no issues after several years of operation.
