CD player crashed in my 04. Can it be replaced with a newer version that is bluetooth compatible? If so, is there anything special i need to do for it to be operational with my phone? Any help is appreciated.

Assuming you are looking for a Ford radio with bluetooth, I would avoid that option. Aftermarket decks are very reasonably priced and will give you options for bluetooth, hands free, back up camera, navigation, etc.. You will get a lot of bang for your buck out of an aftermarket deck.
