Mercon V is ATF. I believe the truck calls for ATF Mercon IV or higher.

The trans calls for Mercon 5 but I didn't know the power steering did.

You would think you would put power steering fluid in a power steering pump.... Never even thought to check...

Well, not all my responses can be winners.

So I did some quick research and it looks like atf maintains it viscosity better at different temps and speeds then a convention PSF. If my PSF is thinning out at higher rpm it wouldn't lubicate the pump as well causing it to fail.

Yup. Can't wait to hear how it turns out... though that may be a few months from now.

The '04 manual states Mercon V for the trans and Mercon for the power steering.
Who would of thought. I never looked at that part of the manual. Just *** u me d that it would take power steering fluid.
