The trans calls for Mercon 5 but I didn't know the power steering did.

You would think you would put power steering fluid in a power steering pump.... Never even thought to check...

So I did some quick research and it looks like atf maintains it viscosity better at different temps and speeds then a convention PSF. If my PSF is thinning out at higher rpm it wouldn't lubicate the pump as well causing it to fail.

The '04 manual states Mercon V for the trans and Mercon for the power steering.
Who would of thought. I never looked at that part of the manual. Just *** u me d that it would take power steering fluid.
